Old Collegian Spotlight: Anele Nzimande (OC 2023)

Anele Nzimande’s journey into motorsport began in 2021, when he was introduced to karting by a fellow Maritzburg College alumnus, Nkazimulo Khubeka (OC 2023). At the time, family commitments and the financial demands of the sport meant he was unable to pursue karting immediately.

Over the next three years, Anele focused on becoming financially independent and developing practical skills. He taught himself coding, explored various online income opportunities, and briefly sold products on Takealot in 2024. While these ventures were not sustainable long-term, they provided valuable experience in problem-solving, technology, and entrepreneurship.

In 2024, Anele also built and began managing his own website, which he continues to use to document his racing progress, present himself professionally, and engage with partners and supporters. After finishing school in 2024, Anele came across an advertisement for a karting academy test day – held at the same circuit where he had first been introduced to the sport. With the support of his father, he attended the test day and, with assistance from the circuit’s shop owner, acquired his first kart, equipment, and racing licence. He went on to compete in the Clubman’s category for the remainder of the 2024 season, finishing 2nd overall in the championship after just six months of racing.

In 2025, Anele progressed to the KZN Regional Championship and competed in two National events: the iDube National and the African Open. Later that year, his results caught the attention of Worr Motorsports founder Wesleigh Orr, who offered him a role as a driver coach alongside continuing his own racing. This opportunity has allowed Anele to compete and travel across South Africa while developing within one of the country’s leading karting teams.

Looking ahead to 2026, Anele will compete in his final full season of karting at national level while continuing his role within the team. His longer-term goal is to progress into car racing, with the MSA4 (South African Formula 4) series identified as his next step, following Worr Motorsports’ recent acquisition of these vehicles.
