Michael Foster, a proud alumnus of the class of 2020, has rapidly become a force to be reckoned with in the world of professional mountain biking. His journey from cycling laps around his college to securing a spot on Team Pyga EuroSteel is nothing short of inspirational.

Early Beginnings

Michael’s passion for cycling ignited during the post-lockdown return to school in 2020. He spent his afternoons cycling around campus, quickly drawing attention to his dedication. Fellow students, armed with calculators and stopwatches, tracked his performance, amazed by the 1,350 kilometres he covered in just three months.

This determination caught the eye of Mr. Van der Walt, then a college canoeing coach, who introduced Michael to the Pyga EuroSteel team through EuroSteel’s canoeing network. Although he travelled with the team in 2022 and 2023 without a professional contract, his perseverance paid off when he officially joined as a professional rider in 2024.
