Maritzburg College and the College Foundation are embarking on a drive to enable an extremely important landmark development on our hallowed Goldstones.
The school continues to progress in many areas.
A notable achievement against current tendencies is College continually increasing the number of sporting teams participating every weekend.
It is so exciting to see our boys fighting for positions in teams in order that they can represent our great school every weekend.
Many of our peer schools are experiencing a sharp decline in participation, to the extent where in some cases, sporting teams have more than halved over the past decade. Most of our sports teams are increasing with particular growth in rugby, hockey, cricket, soccer and basketball. Our proud school continues to lead the way, and Maritzburg College produces more sporting teams than any other school in the country.
This trend does however come with its own challenges as our facilities need to cater for these increasing numbers. With this in mind, the school and College Foundation are embarking on a landmark development to upgrade the existing ‘old scoreboard’ and erect a state-of-the-art First Aid room in the North East corner of Goldstones (visual below).
The project will include the following:
- Upgrade of old scoreboard and ablution facilities.
- Development of a state-of-the-art First Aid centre.
- A function room above the First Aid facility with viewing over Pape’s Astro and Goldstones.
- The revamp of the existing home changeroom in the Kent Pavilion to increase size and functionality for our teams.
In order to finance these top class facilities we are giving every person who played sport on Goldstones (Athletics, Rugby, Cricket) or represented the First Aid team, the opportunity to have your name on a wall in the famous Goldstones changeroom, showing your ‘year/team/sport’. There will be a red, black and white list representing the level of contribution (R1000 red, R5000 black and R10 000 or more white).
As per the 100M4C campaign, we are also happy to accept debit orders for a longer term investment that is more comfortable for the donor (Amounts for debit orders are found for your perusal in our 110MillionforCollege brochure). A single donation of R250,000 will give a donor the internal naming rights of the first Aid facility or the Goldstones changeroom (the functions room has been taken by a major donor already). There will be lockers built in the Goldstones changeroom that can be named after teams who raise a minimum of R20,000. A challenge has already gone out from the 1978 1st team rugby side who have committed R20,000. The number of lockers is dependent on the number of donors but a minimum of 25 is essential.
Please note that Section 18A certificates will be issued to all donors to allow for tax deductions.
Gentlemen, this a once off opportunity to have your name on Goldstones for the next 160 years.
