Through these troubled times of COVID and recent mass rioting I am heartened to hear so many positive stories of what College Old Boys are doing and how they are helping each other.
A wonderful initiative is being led by OC Rod Burentt to restore Skonk’s Valliant that was impacted in the riots. Let’s not forget the massive generosity of the syndicate that include loyal OC, Lucio Santoro (Class of 1985) who purchased it at the auction that was held at the 150th Reunion Dinner in 2013 and then restored it making it available to College.
The Maritzburg College and Old Boy’s Memorial Trust has supported the School with an initiative to address the parking needs on the Terraces in front of Clark house and earth works are well underway. Watch this space as a whole new façade evolves.
Going Digital – CollegeConnect our College Community Business Network has received a massive boost with +- 6 OC “Title Sponsors” (who I really hope will enjoy significant support from all OC), providing significant funding to allow us to secure some new US technology to bring this whole network alive in the digital space. Added to that OC Dominic Nel has evolved the now familiar Cash Loop (the digital wallet that facilitates the purchase of cheese ZARMS) and created “Circular” that he has made available to MOCBA and has very generously added a revenue earner in for MCOBA if we secure other schools to use the tech. These tools are significant enables and you will begin to see exciting new developments roll out that are supported by our central business team at “College Business” under the management of Kevin Smith and Sue Buchanan-Clarke. This will include: Job offers, recruitment, business to business transactions, mentoring of varsity students and much more!
Olympics – We had seven (7) OC taking part at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a highlight was the men’s Hockey team with no less than six (6) OC, defeating the German team 4-3! OC Martin Bindell (2013) competed in the men’s 200m backstroke. We also had two officials taking part (Rugby 7’s and MTB’ing).
Events – I am pleased to say I am looking forward to hosting the Headmaster in CT, Camps Bay this Saturday 7th August and hope that as many OC will join us at the cricket club ( http://www.atlanticcampsbay.com/ ) as we watch the Boks clinch the series!
Let’s hope our Boks work some magic!
Warmest greetings to you all,
Tubby
